Wayne Morton hails from Irish Hills Michigan and has
been an active studio and live bassist for over 20 years. He
owns and engineers Bluegills Studio from his home and
participates vigorously with his noted style of solid precision
and soulful meter.
Wayne recalls his childhood, "I came from a musical family.
My father was a musician, as well as a few uncles. I grew up
listening to many jam sessions. Everyone would get together,
play, and sing all night (I remember falling asleep in front of
my Fathers old Gibson amp with an 8-inch speaker). I can't
remember when I first started playing but I think it was right
around the time my arm got long enough to reach around dads old
Gibson J-45. I started out playing guitar and played with a lot
of garage and school bands. We played Rock & Roll, R&B,
and Soul and Country".
In the late 70's he worked with a Bluegrass band called "Northwind
Grass" for about 10 years. They played a large variety of
music styles using traditional bluegrass instrumentation: banjo,
mandolin, dobro, fiddle, guitar, and bass. They performed at
many festivals, clubs, radio shows and completed a few recording
projects. In 1982 Wayne moved to Tampa, FL to work with a
contemporary / progressive bluegrass band called "Nitewind."
Performing at many concerts, bluegrass festivals, various radio,
TV shows, clubs and recording projects.
During the early and mid 80's Wayne studied music at Siena
Heights College and played in there jazz ensemble. In
1987, Wayne embarked on a memorable journey to South America
with 'Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver'. After many sold out
auditoriums in countries such as Uruguay, Argentina, Columbia
and Costa Rica, he returned in 1988 to further his desire for
jazz, blues and studio recording.
Today, his digital 32 track studio has been host to a number of
credited musicians, and makes for an entertaining side venture.
However, with the realization of the Toe Tappers it seems the
scales have tipped in favor of live music with the dreadfully
hip Bigfoot Bob!
As you've probably heard for yourself, being the bassist for
Bigfoot Bob & the Toe Tappers has given Wayne the
opportunity to provide the heartbeat and life rhythm for a truly
great band. His current gear consists of a Scott Ambush Custom 5
String, a Custom Acacia -5 and a Warwick Streamer -5.
As for the future? The plans are to complete a few CD's in the
studio, reel in the bluegill, and swing on as a fellow Toe
Tapper.
